McALLEN, 25 Feb. - The Bulldogs defeated McAllen Rowe 4-1 and the Lady Bulldogs edged out the Lady Warriors 2-1 to notch a pair of wins in one of the McAllen Clásicos Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in District 31-5A play.
In the boys match, McAllen’s Jorge García tallied a pair of goals, and Brandon Rangel and Jheri Villarreal scored one apiece to lead the Bulldogs to a 4-1 district victory over Rowe. Vince Pantone scored the Warriors' only goal of the game in the second half.
With the win, McAllen recovered from a 2-1 overtime loss to PSJA Memorial earlier last week. The Bulldogs improved to 7-2 with 22 points and secured second place in 31-5A, just behind district-leading PSJA North (8-1, 24 points), who started off the second half of the district season with a bye.
Rowe dropped to 3-6 with eight points after losing their third game in a row. The Bulldogs won the season series against the Warriors.
In the girls matchup, the Lady Bulldogs kept pace with district leader and city rival McAllen Memorial after slipping past Rowe 2-1 in the night cap.
Jessica Peisen and Shaney Warren scored for McAllen, while Victoria Castro tallied for Rowe.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 8-1 with 24 points after the win over the Lady Warriors, who dropped to 7-2 with 21 points, but remained in third place.
McAllen swept the season series against the Lady Warriors.
