MISSION, 14 Jan. - Valley soccer continues to improve each year and there’s no better proof than holding midfielder Mikey López, who signed with Generation Adidas a few weeks ago as one of the nation’s top prospects and will be eligible for the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 17 in Indianapolis.

"I’m really excited," said López, who has played college soccer at the University of North Carolina for the past two years. "I just want to find out with who I’ll be playing with and start getting used to it."

López, 19, won the 2011 NCAA Division I championship with UNC and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year. This past season, he helped his team reach the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Mission native left the Valley last Thursday to participate in the MLS Combine prior to the SuperDraft next Thursday.

López is expected to be drafted in the first round as one of the top draft picks. The teams he could possibly be drafted by are Toronto FC, Chivas USA, Vancouver, and Colorado.

Next month, López will be part of the U.S. Men’s U-20 National Team that will participate in the CONCACAF U-20 World Cup qualifiers. The U-20 World Cup will be played this summer in Turkey.
