PHARR, 17 May. - For the second straight week, a second half rally by a Mission-based team spoiled an apparent victory for their opponent in the second week of the South Texas Premier Soccer Association’s 2012 Summer League.
This time around it was Mission that came from behind to tie Tigres 4-4 and split the points in play. Both teams stayed undefeated with the split decision and accumulated a 1-1-0 (wins-draws-losses) record for four points in the Summer League standings.
A pair of goals by Jonathan Leija, a tally by Lupe Arellano, and another score by Cris González gave Mission a dramatic comeback. José Ángel Soto notched two tallies in the match to increase his league-leading scoring count to eight goals in two matches. Erick Martínez scored the second goal and Ángel Morales tallied the third score for the Tigres.
In the opening week of play, the Golden Rattlers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to draw with Jaguares 3-3 and split the points.
The Coyotes (2-0-0, 6 pts.) stayed undefeated with a 7-1 victory over the Piratas (0-0-2) on a hat-trick by Isael Reyes. Gerardo Sandoval, Juan Montes, Edwin Sánchez, and Javier García also scored for the Coyotes. Manuel Cervantes tallied the lone goal for the Piratas.
