PHARR, 28 March. - The PSJA Lady Bears outlasted archrival PSJA North 1-0 in shootouts in the season-finale on March 23 to clinch third place in District 31-5A and advance to the playoffs. Along the way, PSJA also claimed the Tri-City championship.
In the regular-season finale, the Lady Bears played to a 1-1 draw with PSJA North before notching the 1-0 shootout series victory. With the win, PSJA improved to 9-5 with 27 points and concluded the district season in third place, two points ahead of fourth place Edinburg North (8-6, 25 pts.).
The loss against PSJA and Edinburg North’s victory over Economedes in the last game of the season left PSJA North (7-7, 21) out of the playoffs.
Harlingen won the 31-5 title with an undefeated 14-0 mark for 42 points, while Harlingen South was the runner-up with an 11-3 record and 32 points.
The Lady Bears’ triumph over PSJA North gave PSJA the Tri-City championship title. With the win, the Lady Bears finished the district season series against Tri-City opponents undefeated with a 4-0 record for 11 points.
The Tri-City loss dropped PSJA North to 2-2 with seven points. The Lady Raiders took second place in the series, ahead of PSJA Memorial (0-4, 0).
