McALLEN, 16 Jan. - Teamwork is what wins championships, and McAllen Rowe proved it on Saturday after routing San Antonio Warren 4-1 in the title game of the McAllen Girls Invitational Tournament at the De León Soccer Complex.
Genevieve Mejía scored two goals, Fernanda Baena added the third, and Alissa Villarreal closed out the scoring to give seventh-year Rowe head coach Barbara Torres her first MISD tourney trophy.
The Lady Warriors rolled through pool play with victories of 6-1 and 3-1 over Los Fresnos and Kyle Lehman, respectively, to advance to the Semifinals as the Group A winners.
In the semifinals, Rowe defeated Brownsville López 2-1, while San Antonio Warren eliminated Corpus Christi King to set up the championship match.
