SAN JUAN, 5 Nov. - Kennedy scored twice in a three minute span in the second half to defeat Escalante 2-0 and claim the 2011 PSJA 8th Grade Middle School Tournament championship Saturday at Stephen F. Austin Middle School.
The Razorbacks scored in the 15th and 18th minutes of the second half on goals by César Salinas and Jesús Acosta.
Kennedy advanced to the championship final after defeating San Juan and Escalante in the first two rounds of the single-elimination tournament.
Liberty found their way into the final match with wins over Murphy and LBJ, respectively. The Eagles’ lone goal in the semifinal against LBJ was notched by Azael Vela, who put his squad in the championship.
In the match for Third Place, Escalante defeated defending PSJA district champion Alamo 2-1 on tallies by José Ortiz and Héctor Sánchez. Alamo’s goal was scored by Abraham Alcaráz.
